Hard Rock Treks came highly recommended and lived up to our high expectations. The entire staff was very professional and strove to meet our needs. Our guide Birbahadur was a cheerful traveling companion who did everything he could to show us the best of the Everest Trek. Our safety and comfort was one of his primary concerns.
We would highly recommend

Naturally Nepal,
Nepal is spectacular. While we had heard that Kathmandu, the capital, was one busy, polluted, dirty city, we really enjoyed the colors, the chaos, the narrow streets, the varied architecture, history, and temples, and, the people. Of course, all of that actually pales in comparison to the natural wonders, including Mt.Everest, the Himalayas, and the Anapurna trails and the natural beauty discovered while having to sweat to see it. We are already planning a longer trek with an eye on exploring more of the magical country.
Since I was in Bangkok for medical advice and I knew I'd be returning there for shoulder surgery, it was a logical start point for our trip, and a mere 3+ hours from there. We were met by the Hardrock reps, were taken to the Prince Hotel, a 10 minute walk from the touristy Thamel district with its many restaurants, bars, and many shops set amongst windy streets you will share with large motorcycles, cyclos, and the odd car. Om, www.hardrocktreks.com, worked with us to set up the perfect itinerary for our nine days.
Nearby, about a 20 minute walk past the local markets, temples, and tiny homes, is Durbar Square with temples, palaces, and a UNESCO site. Our guide, Prabink, was full of facts and details about the history of Kathmandu, making all the sites come to life. We also went to the temple/palace of the living goddess, the Kumari, home to a little girl goddess of the Buddhist Sakya sect, chosen for her flawless features conforming to 32 specific attributes. Her feet will never touch the ground until she reaches puberty or sheds any blood and is replaced, and to become the chosen goddess, the child must prove her worthiness by witnessing and then sleeping amongst 108 sacrificed animals, quite a test.
Our flight over the Himalayas gave us amazing views of Mt. Everest and Lhotze. We flew Buddha Air which seemed auspicious, and though it was for less than an hour, it was pretty thrilling for both of us to see the top of the world, the massive peaks and glaciers. We were even allowed in the cockpit for better views.
From there, we started a full day of tours around the Kathmandu valley: we wtinessed a huge, once-a-year family celebration of ancestors at the 2000-year old Swayambhunath Buddhist temple and climbed 300+ stairs to the thunderbolt and stupa with the everseeing eyes of the Buddha. The colorful saris, chanting, incense, and foods were powerful images. We then went to the temples of....to be cont....typibg w/ left hand tiring...
